Projects to date

MSc Thesis: A Vibrato Analysis Tool

For my MSc in Music Technology at UL I developed an application to deliver real-time feedback to singers. The software was developed in MatLab and focused on analysing the vocal characteristic of vibrato. The aim of the application was to provide automated feedback to the vocalist regarding the rate and extent of their vibrato. This project was successfully completed in 2005.

Current Work

PhD Research Area: Analysis of Speech Under Stress

The focus of my PhD research is to analyse the psychophsiological effects of stress on the speech signal. I am undertaking this research at UCC with Dr. Ian Pitt and Prof. David Howard of the , England.

MUSIC

I have trained as a soprano with some of Ireland's top vocal coaches for a number of years. I began my vocal studies in the Kerry School of Music. In 1999 I was awarded Kerry School of Music Student of the Year. In the same year, I began my third level studies in University College Cork in Computer Science. I continued my vocal training working with Veronica Dunne in Dublin. I currently have the pleasure of styuding with the world renowned vocal instructor, Mary MacSweeney. In 2005, I began my Masters studies in the University of Limerick in Music Technology. Here, I acquired valuable skills as a Sound and Recording Engineer, among other subjects. I am currently completing a PhD in UCC, on voice analysis.
